Know Thine Enemy: Let's Go Tribe
Welcome back. It’s been ages.
Any time a team DFAs their starting pitcher after a game that he started, you can imagine that things did not go well. We're going to use our imaginations again and imagine that the nightcap will go better.
After taking a lengthy route to a loss mere hours ago, the Twins will send starter Adalberto Mejia (5.75 ERA, 5.58 FIP, 8.25 K/9 in 36 IP) to the mound with the task of sparing the bullpen from having to do MORE work. He’ll also look to limit early scoring, as the Twins have conceded a first-inning run to their opponent in 6 of the last 8 games.
Facing him is Mike Clevinger (4.09 ERA, 4.35 FIP, 10.36 K/9 in 33 IP), who will make his 17th major-league start. Clevinger can be a bit wild, and a little homer-happy, but his solid minor-league numbers suggest that the 26-year-old righty can be a useful asset to a talented Indians pitching staff.
If all goes well, this game will be reasonably paced and end with the Minnesota Twins back in sole possession of first. There is rain in the forecast and the tarp was on the field pregame, so there might be that to worry about.
Go Twins Go!
