Tuesday Twins: Jason Castro likens Twins rebuild to Astros

And the Astros are really, really good now, so this is good news. Plus, notes on Kirby Puckett, Byron Buxton, and more.

Houston Astros v Minnesota Twins
One day, this will be reversed. Maybe.

Now presenting--the links:

  • Jason Castro reminisced about his time with the Astros last weekend when the Twins were in Houston. Most interesting is what he has to say when comparing the two ballclubs:

"This team reminded me a lot of where the Astros were I think probably in 2015, as we had kind of made that rebound after the rebuild years. I think the complete tear down that Houston went through was a little bit unique. … From last year to this year, I think it was just an anomaly (for Minnesota). It wasn't necessarily that the talent wasn't here."

  • Speaking of Astros, they did a really weird thing for Carlos Beltran’s outfielder’s glove yesterday.
  • Byron Buxton may be injured right now, but he did win the Heart and Hustle Award for the Minnesota Twins! Former players in the MLBPA vote for one representative from each team for the award, and as far as hustle goes, Buxton was obviously choice for the Twins.
  • The Twins are holding their 1987 World Series Championship 30 Year Reunion this weekend, but one of the team’s biggest stars won’t be there—Kirby Puckett. He’s dead. MPR did, however, interview Kirby about the 1987 team back in the late ‘90s, and re-released it on the interwebs for us.
  • Remember how I was bitching about Colon winning the 2005 AL Cy Young award though? Well Twins Daily isn’t happy about it either.
  • In case you’re interested, Grant Brisbee wrote a long thing about the Marlins—but more importantly—about the giant Dinger Machine in their ballpark.
