Trade Deadline Season is a very busy time, with rumors flying around all over the place. Here’s the latest tidbits on the Twins front:
- According to KSTP’s Darren Wolfson, the Twins have been in contact with many teams recently, including the Red Sox, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Yankees, Indians, and Rays.
- So which teams exactly are interested in Brandon Kintzler (per previous rumors)?According to Jon Morosi, the Red Sox and the DBacks are interested. The Red Sox reportedly wanted to get Pat Neshek, but because the Rockies got him they are looking for other options. Rumors about the DBacks seem plausible, since the Twins have obviously been talking to them.
- Twins beatwriter Rhett Bollinger says that he has not heard Robbie Grossman’s name among possible trade candidates. He also thinks Kintzler is the Twins player most likely to be moved before the deadline.
- According to Buster Olney, the Yankees asked the Athletics about pitcher Sonny Grey, but the A’s asked for far too much in return. The Yankees are now looking at other options, including new Twin Jaime Garcia.
- Mike Berardino reports that the Astros have been looking at Ervin Santana, but it’s unclear how serious they are about pursuing a deal. They are concerned about his recent dip in velocity. Over his last two outings, Santana’s average fastball velocity has dropped 1 mph. That may not seem like a lot, but this is a game on inches, folks!
- Yes, the Twins outrighted Anthony Recker and his sweet ass off the 40-man roster and down to Triple-A yesterday. What does that mean, exactly? It means the Twins put him on waivers as soon as they got him and he passed through unclaimed. It also means the Twins now have two open spots on the 40-man roster.
- Mike Berardino also wrote a great piece noting what Thad Levine learned about trade deadline moves during his time with the Rangers, particularly the 2006 season when they gave away some prospect named Adrian Gonzalez.
