"Pitching, pitching, pitching." Where have we heard that one before? Well, this time it's from the Orioles, their team ERA is 5.07 and ranks last in the A.L. Luckily, we here in Minnesota don't have to worry about such things as our pitchers rank at a comfortable 13th in the A.L. with a cool 4.83 ERA. We can still dream of playoffs or at least the future, future, future, depending on how the Boy Wonders decide to roll.

Pitching for the Twins today will be J.O. Berrios (RHP, 7-2, 3.44 ERA). Kap'n Krunchberri-Os, a delicious part of this complete breakfast, had a rough time in his last start. He gave up five runs on nine hits, (three were home runs) in five innings that resulted in a no decision for him. La MaKina faced the O's last May, and he pitched 6 1/3 innings, keeping them to three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Baltimore will be putting probably their best pitcher on the mound today, Dylan Bundy (RHP, 8-7, 4.02 ERA). Bundy gave up seven hits (three homers) in four innings while managing to strikeout seven against Tampa last Saturday. He faced the Twins last May and held them to two runs on six hits and three walks over seven innings striking out seven Twins batters in the process.

  • On this date in Twins history: Justin Morneau's Hat Trick, July 6, 2007: Morneau hit 3 HRs in a single game against the White Sox. It was Game 2 of a double-header at U.S. Cellular Field and the Twins won both games, 20-14 and 12-0. Morneau was the first Twin to do that since Tony Olivia had done it in 1973.
  • If the season ended today it would be considered a "shortened season" and the post-season would be cancelled.
  • Red Wings will become [Garbage] Plates for one game in August reports MLB's Cut4. Garbage plates are a famous dish served in Rochester, NY restaurants consisting of fries, salads and meats piled on a plate. Yum, yum? I confess I've never had one
