In the never-ending quest to patch the sinking ship that is the starting pitching rotation, the Twins went out and improved (?) that very rotation by signing Bartolo "Big Sexy" Colon to a minor league deal.
There's no beating around the bush, Colon was terrible for Atlanta this season. In 13 games the 44-year old (!) went 2-8 with an 8.14 ERA, 6.0 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9. He surrendered 92 hits in 63 innings pitched. Very un-sexy numbers.
The Twins pitching staff hasn't been so good either though. Coming into play on Friday the club sports a 4.80 ERA, fewest strikeouts, and fourth fewest walks in the American League. Also un-sexy.
So who knows? Aside from Ervin Santana and Jose Berrios, none of the Twins starting pitchers have been very good at pitching baseballs. The worst that could happen is Colon smashes down the doors of Target Field and does bad pitching and the Twins are in that same sinking ship they were in before, but with some Bartolo Colon duct tape covering some of the holes.
