Game 87: Orioles at Twins

Good morning Baaaaaltimore...

This afternoon, in the wake of the best Twins-related news of the decade, Minnesota will attempt to win their third consecutive game against a slumping Orioles club that's dropped five straight.

It will be Adalberto Mejia (4.32 ERA, 5.39 FIP, 7.4 K/9, 4.5 BB/9, 0.2 WAR) taking on Wade Miley (5.20 ERA, 5.01 FIP, 8.2 K/9, 5.2 BB/9, 0.6 WAR.) Mejia is coming off a decent 7-inning start against the Angels in which he allowed three runs and struck out five. He has not yet faced the Orioles in his major-league career.

On the other side of things, Miley (who runs with a standard four-pitch mix) is coming off his second-shortest start of the season, having just surrendered seven earned runs in less than two innings of work in Milwaukee. His absolute shortest start was the result of consecutive line drives nailing him on the mound; even if you exclude that injury-shortened outing, he's still failed to complete three full innings three times. Miley has but one career start against the Twins; he gave up five earned runs in four innings as a Mariner in that outing last year.

The Twins will be joined today by Zack Granite, who may or may not make his major-league debut today. Granite was hitting .360/.412/.492 in 59 Triple-A games, and will wear #8 -- which somehow hasn't been retired in honor of Nick Punto yet.
