Twins 9, Tigers 4: Twins streak hits six

This is happening. This is happening. This is happening.

MLB: Minnesota Twins at Detroit Tigers

In a game where Kyle Gibson once again couldn’t get through five innings and Miguel Sano continued to slump, of course the Minnesota Twins cruised to a 9-4 victory over Detroit.

The Tigers scored first, as Eddie Rosario appeared to mistime a jump that would have robbed Mikie Mahtook of a solo dong in the first.

Rosario more than made up for that apparent miscue, belting a 3-run dong in the fourth to give Minnesota a lead they wouldn’t surrender. Max Kepler added to the lead with his own 2-run sloppy-ass tater to make it 5-1 in the fifth.

In between those two dongs, Byron Buxton did this:

Kyle Gibson was unable to capitalize at all, as his career-long problem of the second time through the order surfaced in the bottom of the fifth, as two walks, a double, and a single made it 5-3 and left him without a decision. Ryan Pressly got them out of the inning without any further damage done.

The Twins extended their lead in the 7th on three straight hits, with a Brian Dozier triple and Max Kepler single each scoring a run. The Tigers answered with a run in the bottom of the frame off Trevor Hildenberger, but he induced Miguel Cabrera to ground out as the tying run to end the inning.

It appeared the Tigers would ruin Minnesota’s night, as Taylor Rogers put two runners on with one out and John Hicks lined a shot to right field. Kepler made a leaping catch on the warning track, then Nick Castellanos made an epic TOOTBLAN for the third out at third base.

Joe Mauer’s laced a 2-RBI single in ninth to ice it, and your Minnesota Twins have won six in a row. Also, the team’s best hitter struck out four times tonight. Also also, Tampa lost, so the Twins are ahead of them for the second wild card. If Seattle loses after this is published, the Twins will BE in the second wild card spot. Baseball is so frickin’ weird.

STUDS: Rosario, Kepler, Buxton

DUDS: Gibson, Miguel Sano (he of the aforementioned Ks)
