In a move that shocked absolutely no-one with access to a computer and the ability to type "weather," tonight’s game between the Twins and Cleveland has been postponed due to rain.
Thursday’s scehduled 12:10 PM game will take place as planned. The second game will begin at 6:10. Weather permitting in both cases. Scheduled pitchers are Kyle Gibson and Carlos Carrasco for game 1, then Aaron Slegers and Ryan Merritt in game 2.
Slegers, an AAA callup, is necessary as the Twins will be playing another makeup doubleheader on Monday. For those of you counting at home, that's going to be seven starting pitchers needed over five days. Teams are allowed a 26th man for doubleheaders and the Twins have space open on the 40-man roster, so no additional moves are necessary for Slegers to join the big club. However, do not be surprised if there's shuffling of the deck these next few days.
I don’t mean to be overly cynical about this stuff, but I really hope teams aren’t in the practice of letting fans come to the ballpark & buy concessions when they know rain is coming. I’d like to think the Twins wouldn’t do that. But I don’t know what to think about anything these days.
My favorite rainout story: it was April, and it was raining, and it was cold. Like, 45 degrees. After about an hour, the big scoreboard in left announced "Game Postponed," and a hot dog cart guy in the concourse near me screamed, "OH THANK F———G CHRIST" at about 100 decibels.
Here's a rain song for you. Enjoy Thursday!
