Twins 10, Diamondbacks 3: Buxton/Sano give snakes a thorough whacking

Miguel Sano hit two home runs, and that wasn’t even the craziest thing in this game!

The D-Backs got out to an early lead tonight off Ervin Santana, but the Twins chipped away until they finally blew the doors open en route to a 10 - 3 victory.

Santana looked a little shaky to start off the night giving up a couple runs in the first and a homer to David Peralta in the second as the D-Backs took a quick 3-0 lead.

But Santana would find his groove to allow the Twins offense to come alive tallying up 17 hits and 11 extra-base hits ( 4 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs) including a tremendous performance by Byron Buxton who was just a single away from hitting for the cycle.

Tonight’s highlight reel includes:

Byron Buxton (3-4) with a double, this triple, and this INSIDE THE PARK HOME RUN timed as the fastest in the Statcast era. Buxton nearly laced a single up the middle to complete the cycle but Arizona had the defense shifted over and spoiled the fun.

Miguel “Slumpy” Sano (3-4) smashed two home runs. One in the 7th, and another in the 8th showing he’s still just as capable of crushing huge bombs at any moment.

And the homer parade didn’t end there. Also joining the party were Max Kepler with a solo shot in the 3rd, Eduardo Escobar with a 2 run dinger in the 7th , and Brian Dozier with another solo “just in case” dong in the 8th.

The Twins bullpen also did a fine job by keeping the Diamondbacks off the basepaths from the 6th inning on.

With this win tonight and loses by both the Angels and Royals the Twins are now tied for the second Wild Card spot with the Angels at the moment
