I usually like to have pitcher stats & stuff, but Brewers starter Brandon Woodruff just made his debut last week, so obviously there's not much MLB data on him. What's a lazy writer to do? Well, hello there, FanGraphs!
From Eric Longenhagen: "a mid-90s fastball that usually hovers around 94-95 ... more control over the fastball than command and inconsistency of secondary stuff ... above-average slider is best when it’s located to his glove side, and it’s good enough to miss bats in on left-handed hitters as well as away from righties ... a big (but not bad) bodied righty"
Don't mock us with bad bodies, Mr. Longenhagen, or I'll spray some Colon on you.
Horribly, Woodruff's older brother died last year in an ATV accident. My mom, a 9-1-1 operator, was a Milwaukee baseball fan, and huge opponent of ATVs because of all the emergency calls she took. When I bought my first motorcycle, she was so relieved I hadn't bought an ATV. Those things are very dangerous.
Not baseball related, but yesterday the fine country singer Glen Campbell died. He had a long battle with Alzheimer's, and showed true grit in being very public about it to raise awareness. All too often, Alzheimer's is viewed as an almost shameful disease, because the late stages can rob victims of their dignity. If you have the time or money, give some thought to the Alzheimer's Association of Minnesota/North Dakota. And enjoy this, one of my mom's favorite Glen Campbell songs covered by one of my favorite bands:
