Game 145: San Diego Padres @ Minnesota Twins

Fearless prediction: the Twins will not hit one homer in each of the first seven innings.

One of these men is Minnesota's starting pitcher tonight. The other has pledged to murder him and burn his corpse if he pitches poorly.

First Pitch: 7:10 PM. Vegas odds: -145 MIN / +135 SD

TV: FSN. Radio: Maybe Available To Recruits Training At Camp Pendleton, I Dunno

Opponent's SB site: Gaslamp Ball

As you undoubtedly read yesterday, the Padres are starting fabulously-named pitcher Dinelson Lamet. Here are his numbers; I'll add that his fastball runs around 95, his changeup 90, and slider 86 or so. Who does this remind you of?

That looks a lot to me like the righthanded version of Frankie Liriano. The strikeout and walk numbers are both crazy high; Liriano also threw the same pitch mix. Lamet's splits would seem to be in Minnesota's favor, although that's why they play the games. As for Santana's stats, we'll just have to accept that this is the year he breaks FIP in the happy way, just like Nolasco always broke it in the unhappy way.
