The Twins got on the board first, but the Royals scored 5 runs in the 3rd en route to a 7-6 victory.

Jorge Polanco got things started with a 2-run shot in the first inning. His 10th of the year. But the lead wouldn’t last long as the Royals tee’d off on Dillon Gee in the 3rd, capped off by a 3 run homer by Mike Moustakas to give the Royals a 5-2 edge.

In the bottom of the 3rd, a Brian Dozier single, a Joe Mauer double, and a sac fly by Polanco tightened up the score at 5-3.

The Royals added to their lead in the 6th on a Brandon Moss HR off of Tyler Duffy to make it a 7-3 ballgame.

Designated Hitter Kennys Vargas got a run back in the 7th on an RBI single to make it 7-4.

The Twins made it interesting in the 9th, loading the bases on an error, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch leading to a 2 out 2-run RBI single by Joe Mauer to make it 7-6 with pinch runner Byron Buxton waiting to score on 3B. Jorge Polanco drew a walk to load the bases once again for Eddie Rosario. But alas, no hit, no walk off home run, no wild pitch, and no stealing of home as Rosario struck out to end the threat and the Twins go down 7-6 in the series opener.

The good news for the Twins though is the Yankees also lost today and the Angels are losing to the Rangers in the 9th.
