This game doesn't really matter.
After clinching an appearance in the 2017 MLB Postseason on Wednesday, the Minnesota Twins have taken comfort in knowing that regardless of their performance this weekend, they will be flying a new "17" flag atop the third deck in left field.
Still, there are some storylines worth following as another long regular season winds to a close. The first involves Miguel Sano, who yesterday appeared in his first game since August 19th. Sano was relegated to pinch-hitting duties last night, but sees a designated hitter start coming tonight, as the Twins try to determine whether or not Sano will be in the starting lineup come Tuesday.
And speaking of Tuesday night and the American League Wild Card Game -- Minnesota's opponent has finally been determined. With a Red Sox victory today, the Twins will definitively face off against the New York Yankees in Tuesday night's Wild Card Game.
Finally, this totally unimportant game really, REALLY doesn't matter for Tigers manager Brad Ausmus, who was pre-fired earlier this month. As such, he's decided to let utility man Andrew Romine play all nine positions tonight. This was a feat originally scheduled for tomorrow, but given the chance of a Game 162 rainout, Ausmus has moved Romine's Adventure to tonight instead.
Aaron Slegers (7.36 ERA) will face off against Buck Farmer (7.33 ERA). Meaningless baseball! Let's go!
GO TWINS GO!!!
