It was the best of games, it was the worst of games. It was a game of leads taken, it was a game of leads lost. It was a game of short starts and a game of long dongs. This is our season of competitive baseball.

Brian Dozier started off the top o’ the 1st with a lead-off solo dong up the middle. The Rays struck back with an Evan Longoria jack to center field to tie it up.

Ehire Adrianza had enough of that and hit a 3-run homer to left center to put the Twins up 4-1 in the top of the 2nd. Not to be outdone, In the bottom half, Twins killer Lucas Duda knocked a 3-run homer of his own to tie it back up after Aaron Slegers walked two.

Top of the 5th, Eduardo Escobar hit a liner to right field with bases loaded to let a couple more Twins, including a plunked Polanco to score. 6-4 Twins. Bottom of the 5th, after Slegers gave up a hit to Jesus Sucre, which I think translates to “Sugar Jesus,” Molly pulled him and put in Buddy Boshers. Boshers then gave up a 2-run homer to Kevin Kiermaier (I think that was the name of one of the ROTC guys in Animal House) who tied the score back up again for the Rays.

The Twins broke up this melee with some trench warfare small ball, scoring three more runs on two single by Jorge Polanco and Escobar, and a sac force groundout by Max Kepler. 9-6 Twins.

Twins bullpen held the line and the Twins added another run in the 9th on a Robbie Grossman sac fly for a 10-6 Twins win.

Now it’s on to hopefully hurricane-free Kansas City.
