For the first four innings, you could turn down the volume on your TV or radio and use it for ASMR and take a nice relaxing nap, set your alarm for the 5th if you want, you won’t be missing much, there were some nice defensive plays though.
Top of the 5th, Robbie Grossman hit a solo home run into the right field stands.
Bottom half of the 5th, Gibby gave up a 1-out double to Alcides Escobar. Alex Gordon singled him home with a hit to right field. Whit Merrifield, who just left the dugout writing another love sonnet, hit a blooper to right field, Max Kepler picked it up and threw it home but just a little wide. Alex Gordon crossed the plate and the ball came out of Jason Castro’s glove as Whitfield hastened verily to third, but that was all the Royals would score, 2-1 Royals.

Kyle Gibson pitched seven complete innings without striking out a single batter and only walking one. He did give up eight hits though, but only two runs. Proof pitch-to-contact can work if you have a defense in top form.

Top of the 9th, the Twins loaded up the bases on two singles and a walk, with one out Brian Dozier hit a ball deep into the left field corner that was caught, five feet short of a grand slam, but it allowed Max Kepler to score the tying run. The Royals intentionally walked Joe Mauer to load up the bases again. Jorge Polanco hit a skipper right down the middle to center field letting two more Twins score and put the Twins on top 4-2.
Matt Belisle came in for the save and the Royals went quietly.
- Angels had the night off so the Twins have a 1-game lead in the #2 Wild Card chase.
- Mauer is still tied with Justin Morneau for the Twins RBI record.
