Last week, the Twins came seemingly out of nowhere to sign reliever Addison Reed, who’s actually pretty good. To make space for him on the 40-man roster, the team unsurprisingly decided to designate lefty Buddy Boshers for assignment. Most here at Twinkie Town thought Buddy would pass through waivers unclaimed.
I regret to inform you that most here at Twinkie Town were wrong.
Buddy almost made it. Most teams passed on him, but apparently the World Series champion Houston Astros decided they wanted a piece (or all) of Buddy on their own roster. At least he got to go to TwinsFest?
It’s not a huge loss for the Twins, but it always sucks losing pitcher depth for nothing. The Twins have lost a number of pitchers already this offseason, as Randy Rosario was claimed off waivers by the Cubs; Nick Burdi and Luke Bard were taken in the Rule 5 draft; and Ryan O’Rourke opted to become a free agent when removed from the 40-man and signed with the Orioles.
Okay, I’m going to go back to nursing this Vikings hangover now.
