- Derek Wetmore scribbled some numbers on the back of an envelope, and came up with the Twins having roughly $70 million to spend on free agents this off season.
- One place the Twins may or may not have to spend that money is starting pitching. Matthew Lenz at Zone Coverage looked at who could be in the starting rotation for the Twins next season. Do you think they need some free agent help, or should they roll with their current options?
- One of the long shots for the starting rotation is Kohl Stewart, but he is still a prospect at this point. John Sickels at Minor League Ball wants to know what you think of the young Texan. Sickles rates Stewart as a B- prospect, but what is your opinion?
- A couple other potential rotation members are in Seth Stoh’s “Core Seven” players who the Twins will need to rely on going forward. Adalberto Mejia and Jose Berrios join Max Kepler, Eddie Rosario, Byron Buxton, Miguel Sano, and Jorge Polanco as the keys to the Twin’s future.
- The Hardball Times imagined new names for each American League stadium. Do you like what they suggest we should call Target Field? Is there another name you would prefer we use? The article gives a nice thousand-foot view of the stadium’s history as well.
- If you think hard, you might remember the major controversy of about half-a-dozen years ago, when members of the St. Louis Cardinals front office were busted for hacking the Houston Astros. SI has a great profile on Chris Correa, the man behind the hack. There is a Twin’s connection here, as Correa’s favorite player growing up was a certain rotund center fielder; but moreso, this is just a great baseball and human-interest story.
- There is no Willians Astudillo news this week, so would you be willing to settle for a highlight video instead?
