Chattanooga Lookouts 2018 Opening Day Roster

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

In a poorly formatted roster announcement, the Low-tech Lookouts posted their roster today.

As usual the Twins have a good stable at AA as they look to make a push for another Southern League championship.

Notable:

The Pitching staff is a veritable whose-who of Twins pitching prospects. Stephen Gonsalves, Lewis Thorpe, Zack Littell, & Kohl Stewart are heading up a strong starting staff. Tyler Jay will be given every chance to get off on a hot start in the bullpen - probably as the closer. Stewart and Thorpe are big question marks this year. Littell and Gonsalves need to repeat their strong AA performances of 2017 and prove they belong in the big league club's plans.

Brent Rooker makes the jump from 2017 Draftee to AA. He is on the fastest of fast tracks and if Morrison and/or Mauer gets bit by the injury bug, fans might be clamoring to see him in Target Field this summer. Nick Gordon is given the opportunity to show that his strong spring was no fluke. I hope they leave him at SS and see what happens.

Edgar Corcino and LaMonte Wade will be the OF prospects to watch this year.

This club has a few guys who have been dubbed "pitchers of the future" but all of them have have flaws or questions that need answering. I am looking forward to seeing if Thorpe can stay healthy and get some innings. He has lots of talent but injuries have kept him off the mound. It would be great if Tyler Jay and Kohl Stewart revive their careers and reward the club for drafting them so high. I am still surprised that Gordon and Wade are on this roster. Both did enough last year to warrant a promotion to AAA. But the Twins have never been shy about having a prospect skip AAA and bring them right to the big league club so we shouldn't read too much into it.

its an interesting "veteran" club. There is lots of talent here but lots of question marks too. Should be a fun season.

Opening day is the 5th of April
