Greetings everybody! Hope you've had a wonderful never-ending winter. Today our Twins face the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second game of a very odd early season inter-league series. Apparently the Twins acquired some good players in something called "free agency" (sounds kinda shady to me) to add to the already solid core of players from last year, and it looks like we should have an exciting 2018 season in store for us.
Speaking of new players, Jake Odorizzi takes the mound today for the Twins, coming off an impressive debut throwing 6 innings of shutout ball. The Pirates counter with Ivan Nova, who you may remember from his tenure with the New York Yankees. The Yankees btw have not won a World Series since 2009, which isn't relevant, but needs to be repeated often I think. Nova has been a pretty mediocre pitcher throughout his career. He went 11-14 last year with a 4.14 ERA, and sports a 4.26 ERA lifetime. His last start was decent, giving up 2 runs in 5 IP.
Only a handful of Twins have faced Nova:
Even fewer Pirates have faced Odorizzi:
Here's some music from Pittsburgh's own Rusted Root to send this season on it's way:
