Most underrated Twins players

Let’s have a Twinkie Town community discussion.

Todd Walker
Pop a squat and talk to us.

Last week, I asked the Twinkie Town community to tell me who they felt was the most underrated Twins player. I left the question open so people could either pick the most underrated player on the current team, or the most underrated player of all time. Most of you picked to answer the later question.

Of the two people who decided to write about the most-underrated current Twin, both picked the same one: Eddie Rosario. joseph7823 wrote a post about Rosario’s amazing 27 home runs and 157 hits last year. Titus Decker went even further, explaining that he things Rosario is a future AL MVP. So, I guess that’s it, case closed — Eddie Rosario is Twinkie Town’s current most-underrated Twin.

The rest of you who responded to the question picked a most underrated Twin of all time (or just players who don’t seem to get as much respect as they should). There was a variety of answers:

  • zkonedog picked Otis Nixon. The 17-year major league veteran spent one year playing for the Twins in 1998. zkonedog wrote about Nixon’s impressive production value, especially in light of his advanced age (with a picture to boot).
  • Hogan’s Hero picked two players: Kevin Tapani and Shane Mack. Hogan’s Hero wrote about how the two players were crucial to the Twins 1991 World Championship, but their contributions are often forgotten.
  • bartleyrose picked Carl Willis. Remember Carl Willis? bartleyrose wrote about Willis’s history and his forgotten contributions to the 1991 team and beyond (read: when the Twins were bad).
  • Devereaux picked Todd Walker. Devereaux wrote about how unfairly Tom Kelly treated Walker, and how it led to the early ‘00s team ending up with Luis Rivas at second base instead.
  • whatyouknowtwinsfan picked Scott Baker. Though Baker got off to a rough start, he was a solid starting pitcher for many years. whatyouknowtwinsfan wrote about how he doesn’t get the love he should get.
  • CG19 picked Josh Willingham. Though he wasn’t with the Twins too long, CG19 wrote about how amazing that one year Willingham had for the Twins was.
