Joe Mauer was removed early from Friday night’s game with a neck strain, and it appears to be bad. The Twins have now placed Mauer on the 10-day DL with the neck strain.
I really want to tell Mauer to suck this one up, but honestly? Who am I to say? I’m over 30 years old so my neck hurts basically any time I look right or left. At the same time, I’m also not a professional athlete. If I were a professional athlete, maybe the neck-hurt thing would be a problem. Lord knows I’ve gotten those neck kinks before where it feels like someone is stabbing six steak knives into your neck every second. Maybe Joe got one of those?
To replace Joe Mauer, the Twins have called up Jake Cave! Cave is the guy the Twins got from the Yankees earlier this season (who is not David Hale), and assuming he actually plays, this will be his major league debut! That’s exciting, right?
Get well soon, Joe. We love you.
