Tigers 5, Twins 2: Goodrum curse strikes again

A nice start by Jose Berrios is nixed by bullpen letdown

The Twins struck first and fast on a two run RBI single by Eduardo Escobar in the 1st before the Tigers could even record an out.

Twins starter Jose Berrios had another nice outing, allowing just a HR by former Twin Niko Goodrum to be the only run he surrendered. Berrios did get into a few jams, such as in the 6th when another former Twin John Hicks lead off with a single, followed by a Goodrum ground-rule double. Berrios struck out the next two batters and got the third to fly out to end the inning. In all he struck out 7, walking 1, and the Tigers left 8 runners on in scoring position against him.

The Twins would not have another hit until the 8th inning when Escobar hit a triple to the gap in right-center field. Unfortunately this would be the last hit of the game for the Twins, which is not a good strategy for scoring runs.

Ryan Pressly relieved Berrios in the 7th and had a nice 1-2-3 inning. He was replaced by Addison Reed in the 8th , who unfortunately gave up four hits, including a couple more to Hicks and Goodrum. This, along with a Robbie Grossman throwing error lead to four runs being scored, making it a 5-2 game.

The Twins were shut down in the 9th, and the Tigers take game 2 of the 3 game series.
