Game 98: Twins at Blue Jays

The Twins need a win if they want to keep pretending they have a playoff chance.

The Twins got swept by a bad team this weekend. Somehow that seems an ill omen, since the Blue Jays also have a losing record. Toronto is better than us in the record department, but only by the slimmest of leads. They are currently at 46-52, while the Twins are at 44-53.

Trying to prevent a cataclysm for the Twins tonight is Adalberto Mejia. I'm not sure why, since Jose Berrios only pitched an inning at the All-Star Game, and Ervin Santana is back on Wednesday. If anyone knows the answer to this mystery, please, enlighten me.

Mejia has one MLB start under his belt this season, and it wasn't great. He lasted only four innings, and gave up four runs to the Cubs. The bullpen melted down hard in that game, and the Twins lost 14 to 9.

On the Mound for Toronto is Luis Santos. Santos is a rookie who has appeared in five games as a reliever this season, but hasn't yet made a start. He has a 7.88 ERA, so maybe the Twins can score some runs off of him. His longest outing is two innings, so expect this to become a bullpen game early on both sides.
