Adalberto Mejia turned in a terrific performance today, shutting out one of the best teams in baseball over five innings. He was expected to have a low pitch count today after throwing three innings out of the pen just a couple days ago. For the day Mejia only allowed 1 hit, while walking 3, and striking out 2. The performance will most likely cement him into the starting rotation for the time being after the Lance Lynn trade.
The Indians finally pushed a run across the board off reliever Matt Magill in the 6th. With runners on 1st and 3rd and one out, the Indians put on a double steal with catcher Mitch Garver throwing the runner out at 2nd. Rajai Davis came in to score from 3rd on the play, in which Garver ideally should have just held onto the ball.
Unfortunately for the Twins, Indians starter Carlos Carrasco turned in a just as good if not better day than Mejia, holding the team scoreless over 7.1 innings, while striking out 10 on 4 hits and no walks allowed. Newly acquired reliever Brad Hand finished the day off for the tribe, completing the shutout.
The Twins had a couple runners on in the 8th and one out. New Twin Logan Forsythe lined a ball to the left side, but a slick fielding play by Fransisco
Lindor turned a possible game tying RBI into a double play to end the inning.
Fernando Rodney bought out the whole Fre Rod Experience in the 9th. An error by Jorge Polanco on a throw from Miguel Sano didn’t help while trying to turn a double play. The error would be costly as it lead to a unearned run to make it a 2-0 game. The Indians then loaded the bases against Rodney, but Fernando worked his magic and got out of the jam.
The game was broadcast on Facebook MLB LIVE today and featured former Twin Glen Perkins in the booth. Glen did an excellent job, making it a much more enjoyable experience than other games on Facebook I have watched, and hopefully we can see him back for more games soon.
