A’s 6, Twins 2: Out-slugged

Tyler Austin hit two home runs, but it wasn’t enough today.

When it comes to home runs, according to some advanced math, more is better. Today, the Athletics out-homered the Twins 4-2, and won the game.

The offense for the Twins was provided by Tyler Austin, as he hit 2 solo home runs today. That his 14th homer of the season, and his 6th with the Twins. Unfortunately, those 2 runs weren’t enough.

Jose Berrios went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs (all earned), 8 hits, while striking out 4. He seemed a bit off today, and the Twins training staff checked on him in the 1st inning. The problem was his velocity was down in the 90-92 range instead of 93-95 where it usually is. Berrios would stay in the game, though.

The A’s struck first with a solo homer by Matt Chapman, who later hit another solo home run. They added a couple more runs off of Berrios in the 5th on a Jed Lowrie double to make the score 3-1, A’s.

Stephen Piscotty, Jed Lowrie and Matt Chapman all hit solo home runs off of Matt Magill to bring us to the final of 6-2, A’s.

Studs:

Tyler Austin: 2-4, 2 HR

Jake Cave: 0-1, 3 BB

Duds:

Matt Magill: 1.0 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 HR

Take your pick of most of the rest of the lineup.
