Twins players most likely to be memes in 2019: a ranking

When do pitchers and catchers report again?

10. Trevor May

Reason for: He’s all cool and hip and hangs out on twitch. Kids these days are into that, right?

Reason against: No one pays attention to relievers.

9. Jorge Polanco

Reason for: Who doesn’t love to take it down to Polancoville? This could be his breakout season.

Reason against: He’s really not that well known outside of Twins territory.

8. Kyle Gibson

Reason for: The old good Gibby / bad Gibby thing could come back. Plus he has magical, mystical balls.

Reason against: Do you guys really want me to have to keep defending him?

7. Miguel Sano

Reason For: You never know when Souhan might have another “fried chicken” hawt tayke.

Reason Against: His success, or lack thereof, is way too important to the team for us to take lightly.

6. Jose Berrios

Reason for: He works out like a turtle and pushes trucks around in the offseason.

Reason against: If this was a list of “most likely to be a star” I’d put him at the top.

5. Nelson Cruz

Reason for: He's really, really old in baseball years, and hits majestic dingers.

Reason against: Everyone loves him way too much. It’s just a big hugfest when he is involved.

4. Jake Cave

Reason for: he has a goofy smile and wears his shirt open at the top a lot. He named his "horse" Willians for the Rookie Triple Crown. Clearly he embraces this thing. He also hits a lot of big dongs.

Reason against: How much playing time is he even going to get, if everyone stays healthy? Let’s hope he spends a lot of time on the bench.

3. Byron Buxton

Reason for: He's already in the #bestshapeofhislife. And the whole point is so that he can crash into walls even harder!

Reason against: It kind of feels like kicking a guy while he is down right now.

2. Jonathan Schoop

Reason for: His name lends itself well to “scope” puns.

Reason against: I can’t really think of one. Go for it.

1. Willians Astudillo

Reason for: He already is. The man is the complete package. That physique. That hustle. That home run celebration. The no-look pickoffs. He's the hero we need and deserve.

Reason against: Can someone be too perfect?
