My Bomba Squad experiences

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

In my Bomba Squad experience, I got the chance to go to 5 games in all. There were two against the White Sox, and three against the Tigers, and they went 3-2. I also followed the Twins all season, as did many of you. Without further ado, this is the 2019 Minnesota Twins from my perspective.

This day started out as a very uneventful Saturday for me, but at about 10:30, I was given tickets to the game. It was Game 1 of a day-night doubleheader against the Tigers. After taking the lightrail in, we went to our seats. Big Mike started, and he pitched a classic Big Mike start, going six innings while giving up 3 runs, all on solo homers. After the top of the second, it was 2-0, Detroit. In the bottom half, Jake Cave got hit by a pitch and got driven in on a Schoop double. After 6 innings, it was 3-2, Tigers on another solo shot from Detroit and a Castro dong for us. In the 8th, CJ Cron hit a big, game-tying bomba over the out-of-town scoreboard! Unfortunately, in the top of the ninth, the Tigers scored two runs on another solo shot and a single. It was a very fun day and game.

Me and my family camped outside of Chicago this year, and after we booked our reservations, we realized that the Bomba Squad would be on the South Side to play the Sox. Before the game, we decided to go to Indiana just for the heck of it, and it was surprisingly hard to find a place to grill. Once we got there, though, we found out that they had a sweet "Miracle on 35th Street" t-shirt as a promotion for "Christmas in July" theme night.

This was the first game that Cruz hit three bombas. In the first, Cruz hit his first, and it went 473 feet! The Sox answered right back with a Yoan Moncada solo shot, and it was 1-1. In the third, Cruz hit a two-run shot, his second of the day. In the fifth, after Kepler hit a 2 run shot, Nelson hit his third, another two run bomba. 7-1. Berrios was pitching strikes. It was perfect. After a RBI single by the Sox, it was Sano’s turn to add to the home run derby, with a two run shot of his own. The final score was 10-3.

In this one, family friends invited me to come to a game with them, and of course I accepted. Our seats were right by the limestone by the left field foul pole. It was Players Weekend, so they had their nicknames on the back of the uniforms. After 5 innings, Berrios was putting up zeros and the home team was up 3-0 on a Cruz double and two solo homers by Sano and Cave. In the sixth, though, Berrios unraveled. After a RBI double, Ronny Rodriguez hit a grand slam. Both teams scored two in the eighth, the twins scoring on Sano’s second Bomba of the day, this one a two-run shot. In the ninth, the Tigers added two more, and despite Cave’s second homer of the day, we lost 9-6.

The next night, I also got invited to the game, this time by my friend. After lightrailing in again, I found out that they had box seats three rows away from the Twins dugout! We could call out to the players, and they would probably hear us, just like a Little League game! Kepler hit a leadoff homer, and we held the lead until the third. The Tigers scored two in each the third and fourth innings, and all of a sudden it was 4-1. The Twins finally teed off on Edwin Jackson in the fifth. A Kepler double and a Cruz single made it 4-3, and then Sano hit a three-run bomba, making it 6-4! In the sixth, the Tigers made it close by scoring a run, but then Cave hit a two-run shot, making it 8-5. After that, our relievers shut down, and we won 8-5.

At about 4 pm the day before the game, I was looking at the game on ESPN, and on the side of the screen it said "Tickets as low as $5". I decided to bring my dad to the game. In the third, Ryan LaMarre started the inning with a homer, followed by a Rosario double. Then, Sano hit the second longest home run in Target Field history: 482 feet! It was 5-0, Bomba Squad. After that, the White Sox slowly chipped away at our lead, and they managed to tie it up in the sixth. Then, I got on the Jumbotron for the first time in my history! It was amazing! I left after 9 innings, and then on the lightrail I heard that we ended up winning an amazing game and I regretted that I left early. Final score: 9-8, Twins.

So that was the 2019 Twins from my perspective. Tell me in the comments how the games were that you went to, if any!
