Link time! As usual, feel free to use this as an open thread to discuss whatever is on your mind, post more links, or just have side conversations.
Previously on Twinkie Town
- We graded a couple more Twins, in this case starting pitchers Randy Dobnak and Kyle Gibson.
- Rocco Baldelli was named AL Manager of the year. He is the fourth consecutive Twins manager to earn the honor, and the second in three seasons.
Other things written about the Twins
- Hands off our coaches, New York! The Mets are apparently considering assistant pitching coach Jeremy Hefner for the pitching coach position on Carlos Beltran’s staff (oh yeah, if you missed it, they hired him over Derek Shelton.)
- Friend of Twinkie Town mhatter106 at the Crawfish Boxes revisited his in-depth catcher scoring system, and the Twins’ backstops ended the season well. Mitch Garver is the top in the league, and Jason Castro finished a very respectable seventh.
- Nelson Cruz does not just hit baseballs really, really far. He also hits golf balls really, really far.
- The Twins took home another off-field award recently, as they were honored with the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership award. Target Field was built with environment sustainability in mind, and the team’s continuing efforts on that front are being nationally recognized.
Elsewhere around baseball
- New revelations suggest that the Houston Astros were stealing signs during their World Series season, using electronic means. Sign stealing might be a time-honored tradition, but using cameras to do so is clearly against the rules.
- Only once has a manager with a losing record won the Manager of the Year award—Joe Girardi with the Marlins. Girardi was fired anyway, and the SB Nation mothership tells the story well. Its a nice trip down memory lane, and some old friends pop up along the way.
