Become Familiar With Our Nemesis: Amazin’ Avenue
The Minnesota Twins leave Philadelphia with a series loss and now travel to New York to play two games against the equally-as-strong Mets. The Twins are 1-5 at Citi Field and 1-8 against the Mets overall in this decade. The last two series agains the Mets, the Twins were swept, including a game in 2016 where José Berríos took the loss while someone someone named Bartolo Colón earned the win and another someone named Addison Reed earned a hold for the Mets in that win.
Want more inspiring news? The Mets will send out Jacob deGrom, who’s pretty okay at doing what he’s paid to do. He’s started two games this year and has a record of 2-0, an ERA of 0.00, and 24 strikeouts in 13 innings. His last start was against the Miami Marlins (who?) and his line went like this: 7 IP, 3 H, BB, 14 K. He’s also batting .200/.200/.800 with a homer. So there’s that.
The Twins counter with TJ-heartthrob Kyle Gibson. In his only appearance so far this season, he went 4.2 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K against the Kansas City Royals. (That’s a 9.64 ERA according to Bert’s California math.) In order to make this pitching match-up equally comparable, here’s Gibson’s career batting numbers: .222/.263/.222, BB, 9 K. Let’s see if he can make his career batting stats the batting stats of the Mets tonight, eh?
Where on the diamond is La Tortuga tonight? ...
...and can the Twins get back in the New York groove?
GO TWINS GO!
