Know Thine Enemy: Halos Heaven
Jake Odorizzi will take the bump today for the Twins, facing Angels “opener” Taylor Cole. Los Angeles is expected to eventually trot out Felix Pena as the primary pitcher for the contest. Pena worked five innings in his last appearance (which was against the Twins), giving up three runs on five hits while striking out three. On the season, Pena is a 2-1 with a 3.49 ERA in 38.1 innings. Odorizzi has won his last six starts, but wasn’t quite as efficient or effective in his previous outing. In that start, the right hander gave up three runs on nine hits while striking out three in 5.1 innings. All three runs were scored off a pair of longballs hit by the Halos, though they didn’t damage Odorizzi’s season marks significantly as he sits at 6-2 with a 2.63 ERA.
No one in the Twins lineup has accumulated more than five at-bats against Pena. The Twins are going with a unique lineup tonight, including Luis Arraez making his second straight start at second base and Willians Astudillo batting third and playing first base. The Angels have had more experience against Jake Odorizzi, and their full results against him can be seen here. Most notably, Mike Trout has gone 5 for 10 against three walks against Odorizzi, but he does that against pretty much everyone.
