Well, it apparently IS possible. The Twins defeated the Yankees 7 to 3, behind a solid performance from Jake Odorizzi and somehow even more dingers from the offense.
The first runs of the game came on a home run that barely got over the right field wall from Mitch Garver. This made the score 2-0 Twins in the top of the 3rd, and gave them a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
From the fifth inning on, the Twins added one run per inning. This included two more home runs, one from CJ Cron in the sixth and another from Nelson Cruz in the ninth. On the other side of the ball, Jake Odorizzi was stellar, going six shutout innings with eight strikeouts and two hits allowed. The bullpen allowed three runs in relief, but the late insurance runs made sure that there wasn’t much uncertainty about the outcome in the end. The Twins are 20-11 and 2.5 games up in the AL Central. They’ll go for the series win (!!) tomorrow.
