Yankees 4, Twins 1: Rain, rain, rain

The Twins starter today, Michael Pineda, had struggled in his last three starts, but started this one on a good note, striking out the side in the first inning. However, things changed in the 2nd, as he loaded the bases. With 2 outs, DJ LaMehieu hit an infield single scoring 2 runs, thanks to a throwing error by Jorge Polanco.

Meanwhile, Domingo German was brilliant, only allowing 1 run all day. Through 6.2 IP, he allowed just 4 hits, and 3 walks while striking out 7. The one run came courtesy of a Marwin Gonzalez single, scoring Eddie Rosario.

In the 4th, Mike Tauchman hit a 2-run homer, and one inning later Michael Pineda’s day was done. His final line was 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 8 SO.

The Twins offense had a few chances to get more runs, but just couldn’t find that 3rd hit in a row. Tommy Kahnle snuffed out a rally in the 7th by striking out Max Kepler, and Aroldis Chapman shut down the last Twins rally in 8th inning.

In the bottom of the 8th, Fernando Romero walked the first guy he faced. Then he lost control of a pitch and the umpires met and called a rain delay. After some time, they eventually just called the game, with a final score of 4-1, Yankees.

Hey, at least we got one game. On to Toronto!
