After a fun comeback win on Tuesday night against Seattle, the Twins will look to earn a quick series win against the Mariners on Wednesday.
Jose Berrios will be on the mound for the Twins. Last time out, the Twins’ ace pitched six innings of one-run ball against Cleveland, and he’ll look to continue his strong season against the homer-happy Mariners. To this point, Berrios is 8-2 with a pi-like 3.14 ERA. He’s struck out 78 batters in 83 innings and has a WHIP of 1.08.
He’ll face off against yet another opener. This time, it will be Gerson Bautista, a right-hander making his first career “start”. Of course, he’s no starter, but just an opener. Sorry, Gerson.
And, to shove it in Bautista’s face even more (not really), he’ll be followed by old friend Tommy Milone, who’s having a decent start to his big-league season after being called up to the Mariners.
On Tuesday, Seattle jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after a cheap infield single with two outs was followed by a less-cheap single and a 3-run bomb from A.L. home run leader Edwin Encarnacion. The Twins played catch-up all night, including climbing back from a 5-3 deficit in the eight inning.
Let’s hope that 24 hours later it’s the Twins doing the early scoring, and that Berrios can pitch a bit deeper in the game than Martin Perez did last night.
Enjoy the game!
