Game 63.

Ah, ‘63. A strong year for music. The Beatles released an album in North America for the first time. Bob Dylan wrote his best track (“Talkin’ World War III Blues” — arguments welcome). James Brown went live at the Apollo, and Getz/Gilberto put bossa nova on the map.

For the Twins, 1963 was a 91-win season, but a talented American League meant that Minnesota finished in third place behind the White Sox and the pennant-winning Yankees. What a gross combination of teams to be sitting behind.

Fast-forwarding back to the present day, Game 63 sees the Minnesota Twins sitting atop the AL Central with the fewest losses of any first-place club in the game. Last night, they notched 14 hits in a game started by Matthew Boyd, who’s been one of the league’s premier starters this year. Today, they’ll face a slightly easier opponent in Buck Farmer and his 5.01 ERA. This will be Farmer’s first start of the year, although the Twins have seen him four times in relief this year.

No Rosie today, but the Twins are otherwise riding their “A” lineup in an attempt to win this series.
