The Minnesota Twins unofficially announced that they optioned reliever Zack Littell down to Rochester after the game yesterday and that corresponding moves (with an “s”) would be made. Many speculated that Byron Buxton would be back from the 7-day Injured List for concussions, but that would not be the case.
Dustin Morse, Senior Communications Director & Player Relations for the Minnesota Twins, tweeted that the team has once again placed C.J. Cron on the 10-day Injured List with right thumb inflammation. His time between IL stints has yielded a .211/.211/.474 slash in 19 plate appearances, mashing one tater and striking out four times.
One of the corresponding moves is re-calling lefty Lewis Thorpe. His lone appearance this year was a start against the Chicago White Sox back on June 30 in Chicago. He went five innings with two earned runs and seven strikeouts, taking the loss. He’s appeared in three games for the Rochester Red Wings since being sent down and has posted a 1.80 ERA in those three starts, allowing only two earned runs and notching 11 strikeouts in 10 innings of work.
The other corresponding move the Twins made was selecting the contract of right-hander Cody Stashak. Between Rochester and Pensacola this year, he’s put up a 3.38 ERA in 50.2 innings of work. Accumulating a 7-3 record with four saves, he’s also amassed 71 strikeouts between the two levels, leading to a 12.6 K/9 and allowing only five home runs. His being added to the 40-man roster leaves three spots open for the Twins to play around with before the trade deadline ends.
