It’s time for another Yankees-Twins matchup, with this round at Target Field. The Twins fell in two of the three games when the teams met at Yankee Stadium earlier this year. While many Twins fans dread facing the Yankees, the majority of this team has not known the struggles of the hometown nine against the Evil Empire, and none of them were involved in the last real playoff series against the Yanks.
On the hill tonight for the Twinkies will be Martin Perez (8-3, 4.10 ERA). Opposing Perez will be CC Sabathia (5-4, 4.06 ERA) who announced that he will retire after the season. Of the Twins batters, both Jonathan Schoop and Nelson Cruz have quite a bit of experience against Sabathia, though neither has been that impressive against the big southpaw. Cruz is 7-30 with a .657 OPS, while Schoop is 8-32 with a .732 OPS. No other Twins batters has more than nine at-bats against Sabathia, though Marwin Gonzalez is 3-6 with a dinger against him.
