The Minnesota Twins will be putting on their second-annual Mall Ball event today at Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis. The inaugural event was last year around this time of the season as the Twins set up a makeshift ballpark on the corner of Nicollet and 7th Street, bringing out Twins players and coaches with plastic bats and balls to play some “backyard-style” baseball with some fans during lunch.
This year, the Twins will have a little twist to the event, making it Dominican-style. Twins players and personnel will be on hand to play vitilla, a form of stickball played in the Dominican Republic. Dominican-born Nelson Cruz will be one of the players in attendance, and players will be available for pictures and autographs throughout the games.
The event will be on Nicollet Mall between 6th and 7th Avenues and will go from 11:30a to 1:30p. Approximately three games will be played from noon to 1p, with ballpark food and beverages available during the whole event.
