Monday Morning Minnesota: Break Time Edition

Hey there! I’m covering for Tawny today, so I apologize that this won’t be as awesome as her Monday morning link dumps.

The holiday weekend is finished (hope it went well for everyone) and the All-Star Break is here, but that doesn’t mean you didn’t miss anything this weekend. Plus, that doesn’t mean we get a break either. We’ll have some great mid-season content coming your way this week!

This weekend at Twinkie Town:

• Thomas Hall (not the country singer) handed out Minor League Players of the Month awards for June!
• Bad news: One of the team’s five four three two All-Stars hit the IL. Good news: A deserving Twins player is his replacement in Cleveland tomorrow. (There should be more.)
• One of our community members, doomsdayshark, wrote a fantastic FanPost with some facts and tidbits about the Twins not losing three games in a row so far this year. (NO JINX)
• Speaking of FanPosts, we are calling on you to write and submit your FanPost about what changes you’d make to the All-Star Break. I know you have ideas. (The government has told me so.)
• Jonathan took a look at what logistics would impact a playoff series in Minneapolis. (It’d look AWESOME.)
• In the spirit of our nation’s birthday, Zach brought us his rankings on processed meats! (Hot diggity dog!)
• A couple of pieces on Twins catchers popped up this weekend - one catcher’s great season was put under the microscope by Cooper; two catchers were found to be top-rate at one of our sister sites. (Get it? Popped up? Like they do when they throw a runner out?)
• The Twins got a W, then an L, then two Ws, then an L. (That spells WLWWL, which is not a word.)

This weekend in Twins Territory:

• The Twins put C.J. Cron on the IL and called up LaMonte Wade, Jr. (Boo injuries!)
• The Twins put LaMonte Wade, Jr on the IL and called up Jake Cave. (BOO INJURIES)
• The Twins put Blake Parker on the paternity list and called up Kohl Stewart. (Yay babies!)
• The Twins sent down Kohl Stewart and brought up Devin Smeltzer. (/shrug)
• The Twins sent down Devin Smeltzer. (;alskdfj;aslkdjf;lksjdf)
• This team isn’t called the Bomba Squad for nothing. They broke another record. (They hit home runs.)

This weekend in baseball:

• Expos uniforms returned to the field. (They’re so AWESOME!!!)
• This year’s Futures Game ended in a tie. (WHO’S GOING TO HOST THE WORLD SERIES??!)
• A current MLB catcher on the IL is ending his time behind the plate. (sad face)
• Carlos Carrasco revealed the illness that is sidelining him and as bad as it initially sounds, he hopes to return this season. (and best wishes)

Okay, this is where I also suck, because I have never been really much of a gamer. My Mom wouldn’t let my brother and I have anything except Game Boys. After I dropped out of college, I made sandwiches for a living full time, and after work, I’d go to a co-worker’s house to hang out and play GTA: San Andreas.
