A series split might be less than some fans were hoping for. But after finding themselves in a tie less than 24 hours ago, a two-game lead over Cleveland probably sounds just fine to the Minnesota Twins.
Tasked with securing that advantage is staff ace Jose Berrios. The young righty is coming off the worst start of the year, giving up nine earned runs to the Atlanta Braves. Before that, he had been on a tear — a 2.23 ERA and 61 strikeouts in his last 64.2 innings. Two of those starts were against Cleveland; the Twins won and lost a game each.
For the visitors, rookie Aaron Civale will take the mound. Civale is as fresh as it gets, with two major-league starts under his belt. In those 12 innings, he’s got 13 strikeouts and just one run allowed. He’s the #24 prospect in the Cleveland system, and while he’s been razor-sharp in his infant career, it’s time for the Bomba Squad to bring him back down to earth.
GO TWINS GO!
