Major League Baseball revealed scheduling for all 30 of its baseball clubs yesterday. Although there are some interesting series nationally, the Minnesota Twins get some neat series in as well next season.
The Twins will play Opening Day on the road, on the west coast against the Oakland Athletics for a four-game set from March 26 to 29. After a three-game series in Seattle against the Mariners, they’ll have their home opener on Thursday, April 2, against the same Oakland team before facing Cleveland for a three-game set.
If your parents love Twins baseball as much as you do (or if you’re a parent yourself), your mother and/or father are in luck if you’re all within travelling distance of the Twin Cities. The Twins will host Kansas City on Mother’s Day, May 10. They’ll also be in town for Father’s Day, June 21, playing host to the New York Yankees.
The Twins and the American League Central will face off against the National League West this year. The San Francisco Giants (May 4-6), Colorado Rockies (June 26-28), and Los Angeles Dodgers (July 28-29) will come visit Target Field. Minnesota will visit the Dodgers on April 28 and 29, the Arizona Diamondbacks (July 20-22), and San Diego Padres on September 22 through 24. They’ll also face off against the Milwaukee Brewers in Minneapolis on June 16-17 and in Milwaukee on August 25-26 as per their annual tradition of no longer playing it on a weekend for some dumb reason that I can’t remember.
There are a couple of long stretches of inter-division games against AL Central foes next year. The first good test will be from May 8 through May 17, when they’ll host the Kansas City Royals, then hit the road to face the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland. From August 31 onward, the Twins will play 25 games - 19 of them against Central rivals.
The Twins’ final home game of the 2020 regular season will be against Detroit on September 20, while they’ll end the season in Kansas City on September 27.
