Know Thine Enemy: Over the Monster
The Twins will have a shot at winning the series against the Red Sox on Wednesday night with Jose Berrios on the bump.
Minnesota jumped out to a 6-0 lead after a home run from Miguel Cano Sano (raise your hand if you heard Bob Costas identify him as Cano more than once last night on MLB Network) and had to hang on for dear life in a 6-5 final.
Given the fact that the Twins won a bullpen game on Tuesday, one would expect them to have a good shot at winning Game Two with Berrios pitching.
But Jose has struggled as of late, save for his last outing. Last time out against the White Sox, Berrios lasted for six innings and gave up three earned runs while tallying eight strikeouts. The Twins pushed his start back a day to give him some extra rest, so here’s hoping that pays dividends tonight.
Berrios will be facing off against Eduardo Rodriguez, who has gone 16-5 this season with a 3.97 ERA. After back-to-back outings of at least seven innings and zero earned runs, Rodriguez allowed three runs in just five innings at Colorado last time he pitched. The Twins will hope for a similar outing at Fenway this evening.
The game is once again on MLB Network for those of you who are out-of-market, yours truly included, so let’s enjoy the dulcet tones of Costas and John Smoltz together.
