Strat-o-Matic 1965 World Series: Game 4

You’ll never guess what happened today at the baseball game...

Twins v Dodgers
At long last, an actual shot from this Series as the page image.

I don’t actually have anything important to say during this introduction; it’s here solely to conceal any spoilers from the article opening in any thumbnails on social media. Though I do apologize for the delay, as my dad and I played this game on New Year’s Day, so I should have written it up sooner. My bad.

I hope the delay between post hasn’t decreased interest in this series.

Sluggish off the presses:

Game 4

LOS ANGELES—The population around Chavez Ravine has burst into joy today.

Wes Parker’s walkoff double plated Jim Lefebvre with the World Series-winning run as the Los Angeles Dodgers swept the Minnesota Twins out of October with a 4-3 victory.

While the Twins’ bats finally awoke, the team tallying nine hits to match their total from the previous three games, Minnesota left nine runners on base, keeping many scoring opportunities from crossing the plate.

As was common this Series, the Dodgers broke through first off Mudcat Grant, Jim Gilliam sending a blast over the left field wall to give the home squad a 2-0 fifth-inning lead.

But the Twins, two starters already out due to injury and losing Harmon Killebrew in the first inning, tied the score right away. Earl Battey led off the sixth with a double and Frank Quilici promptly singled him in, After moving to second on a deep fly ball, Quilici evened the score when Don Drysdale threw Jimmie Hall’s ground ball into the stands.

That even score lasted until Maury Wills tripled home John Roseboro in the bottom of that same inning.

Their chances running low, Minnesota’s batters tied the game in the eighth when Tony Oliva’s single and Rich Rollins’ double bracketed a pair of Johnny Podres strikeouts.

But the Twins would only muster a single off Howie Reed in the ninth before Dave Boswell took the mound for his third inning of relief work.

After two quick outs, Lefebvre doubled to the wall, and Parker followed with a drive that fell between the gloves of Hall and Sandy Valdespino, concluding the Series with raucous applause.

Sorry, Twinkie Town.

This was too short to stretch out to a full seven articles to hide results for latecomers. But I still will be writing a full Series recap with a compiled box score and individual awards.
