Know Thine Enemy: Over the Monster

The Minnesota Twins come off of a tie against the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday, and now sit in purgatory until that tie is resolved. Just kidding! They host the Boston Red Sox, who have two scheduled games today, so this is a split-squad game for them.

The first game in the fight for the Chairman’s Cup (I think that’s still a thing, right?) will see two veteran starters face each other, both making their first appearance this spring. The Red Sox will roll with Nathan Eovaldi, who posted a gnarly 5.99 ERA and 5.90 FIP in an injury-shortened 2019 with Boston. Minnesota will send one of their newly-acquired pitchers to the bump. Kenta Maeda, who may or may not share a birthday month with me, turned in a 4.04 ERA and 3.95 FIP in 153.2 innings of work last year, supplemented with a 9.9 K/9 and a 3.31 K/BB ratio.

Although Boston has that split-squad today, it looks like they will be bringing over some big-league names. Minnesota will have some players making their spring debut. Will the Twins exact revenge against the Red Sox for botching that trade from this winter?
