Graterol isn’t enough, and talks are slow-going.

We’re in day four of the three-team trade between the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, and Minnesota Twins, and things have been moving pretty slowly. According to Jon Heyman, the teams want to get this finalized, but talks between Boston and Minnesota are slow-going:

If you haven’t heard, the sticking point is due to the Red Sox “noticing something” on Graterol’s medical reports and they are now classifying him as a reliever instead of a starter. Starters are more valuable on the trade market than relievers, hence Boston supposedly asking for another prospect from the Twins. Reports have said that the Twins are confidant that the deal will still go through, but a lesser amount of reports have also said that the whole trade may be in limbo.

Many people on social media are chalking this up as reaction to the backlash the Red Sox front office has received from their fan base. Even former Twins and Red Sox pitcher Pat Light weighed in with that take:

On the other side of it, a lot Twins fans are saying that Minnesota should back out completely or the Dodgers should cough up some cash or a prospect to even out the deal.

Either way, the timeline of when this trade could be finalized is questionable at best. Of course, sooner rather than later would be ideal for all involved as camps and workouts will start in the coming weeks.
