As a writer, I only thrive when news happens or when games are going on. So when I was told that by a good friend that I missed a 14-word tweet from Betsy Helfand of the St Paul Pioneer Press yesterday, I knew I was still in some type of trance or alternate universe. Nonetheless, the Minnesota Twins did make two roster moves yesterday.
Pitcher Sean Poppen was optioned down. The righty saw action in four Grapefruit League games, allowing three earned runs in nine innings of work. He also struck out 10 batters while walking three.
Another player optioned down was LaMonte Wade Jr. The outfielder saw some considerable playing time in Spring Training. He played in 11 games, getting in 26 plate appearances and batting .286/.423/.381. No homers or RBI, but he was able to notch two doubles.
Both players will most likely start the season with the Rochester Red Wings. These moves leave the Twins with 55 players remaining in their big-league camp.
