Tonight had a bit of everything. A Twins stole two bases. Four other guys went bomba. Eddie Rosario threw out C.J. Cron at home.
Things were quiet for three innings. The two rookie pitchers traded zeros. Max Kepler singled to start the top of the fourth though, and stole second during Sano’s at bat. Sano eventually doubled, bringing home Kep.
The Twins opened up the offense in the top of the fifth though. Mitch Garver and Marwin Gonzalez led off the inning with back-to-back-jacks. That gave the Twins a three-run lead, but Detroit took one back in the bottom half of the inning, on a solo shot of their own by Niko Goodrum. Those were the only runs given up by the starters.
Matt Manning gave way to John Schreiber in the top of the seventh. Garver took a walk, and with a man on first, Ehire Adrianza hit his own big fly, which brought the score to 5-1.
The Twins picked up two more runs in the eighth. Max Kepler took a lead off walk, then stole second, for the second time of the night (and his third steal of the season.) Luis Arraez brought him home with a single. Donaldson’s single moved each man up a station. Garver collected his second RBI of the night with a single that scored Arraez.
Cody Stashak came out in the bottom of the eighth for his third inning of work, and didn’t collect an out. Victor Reyes hit a single to bring up Schoop, who continued his revenge tour by hitting another homer, this one for two runs. Not to be outdone by his fellow 2019 Twin, C.J. Cron hit a jack of his own. That ended Stashak’s night and brought in Tyler Duffey. Duffey allowed a double, a groundball out, and a single to score another runner, but finished out the inning with the score 7-5 in favor of the visitors.
Just to make sure of things though, the Twins scored again in the ninth. This time it was a single for Adrianza putting him on the bases, and then a moonshot from Byron Buxton that clocked in at 455 feet to score two more runs.
