If you need another dose of baseball and you’re in or around the Fargo-Moorhead metro area, you’re in for a bittersweet treat. KNFL 740 AM The Fan will be playing the radio broadcast of Game 1 of the American Association North Division Championship Series between the host Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks and the visiting St Paul Saints.

Last season was a neck-and-neck race between the two rivals with a third dog - the Chicago Dogs - close behind. The Saints beat out the Redhawks in the season standings by one game and the two teams were pitted against each other for the best-of-five North Division Championship Series. Spoiler: the series went to five games.

Former Chicago Cubs farmhand Ryan Williams got the nod from the home team. He was released in May from the Cubs and picked up by F-M, where the righty put up a 2.93 ERA (3.71 RA9) in 13 starts and 80 innings of work. Although his H/9 was 10.1, his K/BB ratio was 8.50.

Southpaw Chris Lee took the mound for the Saints. Released by the Baltimore Orioles franchise (and now with the Milwaukee Brewers farm system) in July, he was signed by St Paul and made 12 appearances (one start) of 4.10 ERA (4.10 RA9) ball over 26.1 innings of work. He struck out 32 batters (10.9 K/9) and walked 10 (3.4 BB/9), leading to a 3.20 K/BB ratio.

The re-broadcast will start at 7p Central with award-winning broadcaster Jack Michaels on the call from Newman Outdoor Field. If you are in Fargo and prefer FM radio, you can turn your dial to 107.3. If you’re not in the F-M area, you can still catch the game online by clicking here.
