Today’s lineups:
MIN: Max Kepler RF, Josh Donaldson 3B, Luis Arraez 2B, Miguel Sano 1B, Eddie Rosario LF, Nelson Cruz DH, Ehire Adrianza SS, Alex Avila C, Byron Buxton CF, Randy Dobnak P
BAL: Cedric Mullins CF, Rio Ruiz 3B, Trey Mancini RF, Anthony Santander LF, Hanser Alberto 2B, Renato Nunez 1B, Dwight Smith Jr DH, Jose Iglesias SS, Pedro Severino C, John Means P
Randy Dobnak shows us today why pitcher wins are stupid. He threw 7.2 innings of one-run baseball, giving up one run on five hits, yet got very little run support. Tyler Duffey threw five pitches and got the win. Taylor Rogers being removed after two outs in the ninth somehow ended up seeing Cody Stashak called upon to collect his first-ever MLB save.
Dobnak and Means, the two young hurlers, exchanged zeros all day, up until the bottom of the seventh inning. The Twins finally broke through in the home half of the seventh, putting a run on the board, off thebat of Eddie Rosario. Rosie’s ninth bomba of the season was a one-out no-doubter pulled an impressive 459 feet.
Dobnak gave the run back in the eighth though. With two out, Jose Iglesias cracked a single into right field. He then stole second base. Chance Sisco’s single brought Iglesias into score, and brought Tyler Duffey in to close out the inning.
Richard Bleier, who had finished the seventh, returned to the mound in the bottom of the eighth inning. He only gave up two hits in the inning, but they counted. Byron Buxton hit a lead off single, bringing up Max Kepler. Buxton stole second on the first pitch Kepler saw—but it was pointless. Kepler turned on the pitch he saw and pulled a fly ball over the wall.
Taylor Rogers came on for the ninth, and struck out the first two men he saw. After issuing a free pass to Hanser Alberto he was sent to the showers, and Cody Stashak came in. For some dumb reason. Stashak gave up a single, then induced a strikeout to end the inning and collect a save.
Notes
- This is HR nine for Rosario and ten for Kepler. Nelson Cruz has 12 and Miguel Sano has 11, to lead the team.
- Rogers now has a 0.57 ERA. That is not a typo.
- Michael Pineda is eligible to rejoin the team, but will begin with a rehab stint. Vote below for how long it will be before he is ready
