Today’s lineups:

MIN: Mitch Garver C, Jorge Polanco SS, Josh Donaldson 3B, Nelson Cruz DH, Eddie Rosario LF, Miguel Sano 1B, Marwin Gonzalez RF, Ehire Adrianza 2B, Byron Buxton CF, Randy Dobnak P

LAA: Andrelton Simmons SS, Anthony Rendon 3B, Mike Trout CF, Shohei Ohtani RF, Jo Adell DH, Jason Castro C, Brian Goodwin LF, David Fletcher 2B, Albert Pujols 1B, Andrew Heaney P

The only Twins to really solve the Angels pitching tonight were Josh Donaldson and Ehire Adrianza. Between the two of them, they acquired both walks, and half the six hits the Twins mustered tonight. More tellingly, the team struck out 11 times, with only those two and Eddie Rosario not picking up at least one K.

Randy Dobnak’s performance wasn’t special, but it was good enough. Cody Statshak’s relief outing was about the same. Dobnak gave up four runs in six innings, with four hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Stashak pitched two innings, giving up no runs, one hit, two walks, and three strikeouts.

The Twins’ best chance to score came in the third. Ehire Adrianza hit a leadoff single, and Mitch Garver added another with one out, but that was all the Twins could put together.

LA did their scoring in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. In the bottom of the fifth, a two out double by David Fletcher followed by an Albert Pujols single scored one.

In the bottom of six, it was a walk by Mike Trout that haunted, and a double by Shohei Ohtani that drove him in.

Finally, in the seventh, Dobnak walked Brian Goodwin, and it haunted him again on Fletcher’s second double of the night. Cody Stashak would come in to face Pujols and the top of the order, and allowed Fletcher to score before working out of the inning.

  • Andrew Heaney threw 8.1 innings for LA, holding the Twins to six scattered hits and two walks, versus ten strikeouts.
  • Josh Donaldson hit his sixth double of the year in the sixth.
  • For those who care: the Yankees are in third place in the AL East, 2 12 games back and behind the Blue Jays and Rays. The Yankees are also 1 12 games out of the wild card.
