Kenta Maeda took lemons from the Twins offense and made lemonade today. Taylor Rogers peed in the lemonade pitcher though.
Maeda had the win in the bag. He pitched 7.1 innings for the Twins, and didn’t give up a run. He only allowed four hits, and three walks, against six strikeouts. Tyler Duffey gave up one additional hit to get through the rest of the eighth inning.
The Twins had put their single run on the board in the sixth inning. Miguel Sano did Miguel Sano things, and hit yet another home run, his seventeenth of the season. I spelled that out, because that is a big number, and it deserves a long word. My keyboard might never recover though. The home run was absolutely smoked. It went 469 feet to straight-away center. It also looked like the only run of the game, as the Twins turned to their usually-reliable closer to get through the final frame.
Instead, Rogers only notched a single out. He gave up singles to Tim Anderson and James McCann that put runners on the corners. Leury Garcia hit a big sacrifice fly that tied the game, and brought up Yoan Moncada, who has killed the Twins this season. Moncada hit a 3-2 pitch hard, doubling it deep into center field and bringing home the game-winning run for a walkoff.
Notes
- Arraez keeps the streak alive.
- Sano collects his third homer in as many games.
- Even with these two runs, Rogers still has just a 1.59 ERA
